In the heart of a quaint Vancouver neighbourhood, our Windsor project aimed to create a space that is not only aesthetically pleasing but also conducive to a sense of ease and nurture a comfortable living experience. Instead of tearing the home down (as many would have considered given the original condition), we wanted to honour the past and preserve the historic character of its early 1900’s charm. The vision was clear: a blend of old-world timelessness with contemporary sensibility, ensuring that the character would endure for the next 50 years and beyond.
The home had a natural warmth we aspired to maintain; however, the original closed floor plan did a disservice and limited the overall flow and sight-lines of the home. Introducing a careful selection of materials and textures was fundamental in the success of this project. Fluted white oak, sand coloured marble and handcrafted tiles accented with stain finished concrete, effectively harmonized to create an inviting modernity within the space.
Rather than simply furnishing the space, our focus aimed towards crafting bespoke pieces tailored to each area of the home. Highlights include the eclectic entryway with curved edges and half-moon mirror. The cozy fireplace seating with integrated storage, the banquet in the newly created breakfast nook and the adorable child’s desk and library. Each custom-built element was designed with intentionality, seamlessly integrated with the home’s natural architecture, and maximized functionality.
With limited space at our disposal, we employed innovative solutions to amplify storage while maintaining an aesthetic focus for the design. Every decision was made with purpose, ensuring that each design element also served a functional role in enhancing the overall living experience. The result was a space that not only looked charming but also felt like a true home, evoking a sense of warmth and sweetness that resonated throughout every corner. It’s an honour to play a part of this home’s rich history.
