The Osnova Design Museum together with the Fashion Lab of our studio initiated the project “A Fairy Tale for Every Home”, the goal of which is to update the legacy of authors, promote literary and design heritage through current technologies. Graphic works by I.Ya. Bilibin and N.S. Goncharova for the works of A.S. Pushkin “The Tale of Tsar Saltan” and “The Tale of the Golden Cockerel” inspired us to create the collection of carpets.
The project started with a series of sketches, then the master transferred the most successful solutions of the contours to the product blank for execution using the tufting technique. Hand tufting technology is a method of making carpets in which a twisted thread is driven into the base. The yarn is inserted through a pneumatic device resembling a gun. It shoots compressed air, which fixes the thread, creating a knot on the fabric base. Then the pile is fixed on the back with latex and covered with a backing. After that, the carpet is cut according to the design and carefully cleaned.
“A Fairy Tale for Every Home” is a place where art, design and fashion are intertwined into a single whole! The project demonstrates how cultural heritage can be reinterpreted and embodied in contemporary design objects, creating unique and memorable pieces.
