COCO Koh Lon is a yoga and wellness retreat located on 14,000 sqm of beachfront land with 180 metres of frontage on the secluded island of Koh Lon, Phuket. Following the success of the Vikasa wellness brand, the client’s objective was to establish a second flagship destination centred on yoga and training, supported by a strong architectural identity and a clear sense of place.
The brief required wellness facilities to form the heart of the masterplan, creating a calm, community-oriented environment. Accommodation was designed to support extended stays of seven days or longer, with interiors and amenities carefully considered for a predominantly female clientele. An interactive show kitchen was to be incorporated within the restaurant, aligning nourishment with the retreat’s holistic philosophy.
The development is organised around a sculptural wave-form main building that acts as a unifying focal point. A continuous flowing roof connects reception, restaurant, Life Café, and yoga studios beneath a single architectural gesture. This structure frames sea and sunset views while guiding intuitive circulation between spaces. The central hub encourages social connection while maintaining a sense of tranquillity.
Private accommodation is expressed through organic villas, including the distinctive Turtle Houses. Their shell-inspired forms reference the coastal setting and provide privacy, comfort, and a refined natural aesthetic suited to longer stays. Spatial planning prioritises discretion, soft transitions, and a close relationship to the surrounding landscape.
Material selection reinforces the concept. Bamboo, chosen for its flexibility and structural performance, enables the project’s curved architectural language while introducing warmth and texture. Open-air walkways, shaded pergolas, and layered planting promote natural ventilation and passive cooling. Landscape screening ensures privacy without compromising openness.
COCO Koh Lon is conceived as an immersive retreat shaped by climate, context, and community, aligned with the Vikasa philosophy of balance, connection, and personal transformation.
