The construction of the cyclist and pedestrian bridge began in February 2023 and finished in December 2024. The project was implemented under the Moscow Targeted Investment Program.
The bridge connected the parts of the district divided by the bay and improved transport accessibility of the Nagatinsky Zaton station of the Great circle subway line for the residents of the neighbourhoods on the Rechnikov and Sudostroitelnaya streets, as well as a new residential complex. The access to social and commercial infrastructure was opened to the residents of the peninsula.
The 219 meters long span is based on the engineer Fink’s truss principle. A structural feature of the Fink truss is the absence of a continuous lower chord. Instead, mast heads are always connected to adjacent mast legs and vice versa. When designing the Nagatinskiy pedestrian bridge, the original design of the Fink truss was turned upside down. In addition, excess diagonals connecting the second and subsequent masts were omitted.
The structures support the deck and create the permeable division between the pedestrian area 4,5 meters wide and the bicycle path 2 meters wide. The width of the safety strip is 0,75 meters.
The concept of delicate lighting of the main structural elements was developed to underscore the expressiveness of the bridge. The tops and bases of the masts, as well as the supporting plinths under the deck, are emphasized by direct light. Lights embedded in the handrails along the entire length of the bridge accentuate the curve of the bridge and form a continuous composition.
In addition, they illuminate the bike path and pedestrian area without the need to install lampposts that create additional obstruction. And the reflection of light in the water greatly enhances the effect.
The height of the bridge clearance excludes the possibility of the navigation below it. However, this feature makes it possible to equip the comfortable entrance to the bridge from the waterfronts for the residents, including people with limited mobility.
The central space of the bridge is a recreation area with benches from where citizens can admire the views of the river and urban neighbourhoods.
0,8 Hectares of lawns were in order and 145 shrubs and trees were planted as part of the landscaping.
Therefore, the cyclist and pedestrian bridge over the Nagatinsky Zaton made transport, social and commercial infrastructure more accessible for the residents of the peninsula.
