The three most important criteria for the property owner were location, location, and location. After a long search, the property owner found a suitable location in Königswinter near Bonn, Germany. It was a quietly situated hillside property with a view over the Rhine all the way to the Bonn Post Tower – a view that needed to be framed and showcased architecturally.
The concept of the building is characterized by its geometric clarity. In the design process, a cubist-shaped residential house with a flat roof on a square floor plan was created, embedded into the slope. Cubic volumes were intentionally “cut out” from the cube to reduce the building’s weight and massiveness. These cutouts are utilized as outdoor areas such as terrace and balcony, making them functional extensions of the building.

Klaus Mäs Architektur
Klaus Mäs Architecture is characterized by cubist and minimalist designs that follow a straight and reserved formal language.
Our strengths lie in the creation of clear concepts, the intensive integration of the client’s wishes into the planning process and a high level of understanding of the craftsmanship and the practical processes on the construction site.
The firm sees architecture as a comprehensive entity. This means that, starting from an overall concept, the exterior shell, interior design, materiality, lighting, and even elements of the outdoor space are collaboratively designed. This approach results in individually tailored projects of high quality with a distinctive identity down to the smallest detail.
