Originally built in 1898, this Victorian residence has been carefully reimagined to support contemporary family life while preserving its historic character. The intervention restores dignity to the exterior, maintaining its architectural integrity, while the interior introduces a new spatial clarity centred on openness and flow.
At the core of the transformation is a “life room” — a unified kitchen, dining, and living space inspired by an orangerie. Defined by oak beams and expansive glazing, it opens directly onto restored terraces and gardens, dissolving boundaries between interior and landscape. This space anchors daily life, prioritising comfort, flexibility, and connection.
The surrounding gardens, originally designed in the late 19th century, have been revitalised with a focus on outdoor exploration and engagement with the natural terrain. Existing stone formations and pathways are reinterpreted to support both family use and the site’s historic identity.
A former garden shed has been transformed into a compact spa retreat, retaining elements of the original structure. Within a modest footprint, the design integrates a soaking pool, indoor and outdoor showers, and framed views of the landscape through a continuous glass façade.
The project balances preservation and reinvention, creating a cohesive living environment where architecture and landscape evolve together.
