Soft Urbanism is a comprehensive residential development that redefines housing as an integrated living landscape. The project balances new urban density with the existing natural context, creating a cohesive environment where architecture, ecology, and everyday life are seamlessly interconnected.

The concept is based on the principles of the “15-minute city,” where essential daily functions are accessible within walking distance. The key challenge was to integrate multi-family housing into a low-rise environment while preserving the existing pond and respecting height limits. A mid-rise typology (4–8 stories) ensures the required density while maintaining visual continuity and a human-scaled urban fabric.

The masterplan is structured around a continuous green-blue framework, where the pond becomes the ecological and social core. Landscape is treated as infrastructure: it manages stormwater, enhances biodiversity, improves microclimate, and forms a unifying recreational network.

The project is based on six principles of soft urbanism.
1. Enhancing natural potential
The pond becomes the core of a continuous green system and a central public destination.
2. Integration of landscape and public space
A connected network of pedestrian paths, green corridors, and cycling routes links all areas.
3. Seasonal adaptability
Spaces transform throughout the year: the lakeside functions as a summer retreat and winter ice rink, while paths shift between cycling and skiing.
4. Diversity of urban spaces
Open squares, semi-enclosed courtyards, residential streets, and green boulevards create varied spatial experiences.
5. Silhouette-based composition
Buildings from 4 to 8 stories form a dynamic yet contextual skyline with clear urban accents.
6. Urban villas
Mid-rise housing with terraces and greenery offers a hybrid between suburban comfort and urban density.

The architectural language is based on contemporary tactility. Brick facades with depth, warm tones, and refined detailing create a sense of permanence and human scale. Variations in facade patterns act as identity markers and wayfinding elements, while active ground floors introduce social and commercial functions.

A pedestrian-first mobility strategy minimizes car presence and prioritizes walkability and cycling. Sustainability is embedded through compact planning, durable materials, and climate-responsive design.

Soft Urbanism proposes a new model of living — defined not by density alone, but by the quality of connections: to nature, to community, and to time. It is a resilient and adaptive environment designed to evolve with everyday life.

akvk+partners

akvk+partners is an interdisciplinary team of architects, researchers and engineers. We create unique architectural environments at the intersection of form-making and the programming of life patterns, always keeping people at the center of our approach.

For us, every project is an opportunity to create something meaningful and distinctive—a dialogue with the context of a place and its future. By combining a deep passion for architecture with strong team engagement, we develop solutions where the interests of the client, the city and the user remain in balance.

Our experience ranges from building design to master planning and urban development strategies. We aim to create cohesive and sustainable architectural environments that support the formation of vibrant communities.
