Tailored for a Lego enthusiast, this 96-square-meter, three-bedroom apartment renovation originates from the owner’s imaginative and whimsical personality. Inspired by the surrealistic “collision between the subconscious and reality,” it introduces the concept of “Sliced Dreams, Deconstructed Daily Life,” thereby translating abstract artistic language into a concrete, lived-in experience.
The project defies the surrealistic stereotype of “absurd exaggeration,” instead employing colored curved glass and geometric metal tiles as a new symbolic language. Water-ripple patterned glass, combined with color-blocking techniques, casts fluid patches of light, weaving dreams and reality together. The repetitive rhythm of peacock-green four-leaf tiles creates a subtle tension with the glass’s free-form color blocks. Curved lines soften the room’s angles, outlining a retro-modern aesthetic with a hint of light luxury. A light gray base anchors the space, allowing artistic elements to stand out, while textured chairs and a glass dining table add warmth and comfort. The result is a hazy poetic quality that evokes a “daydream”, transforming the home into an inhabitable surrealistic art installation.
The project innovatively employs “soft partitions and functional feature walls” to create a symbiosis of artistic expression, storage, and spatial division. While ensuring bedroom privacy, the layout connects the hobby room and the master bedroom to the balcony, catering to both the owner’s collecting passion and daily living needs. The harmonious interplay of light and color evokes a sense of romance in the everyday.
On the sustainability front, the project adopts durable, stain-resistant matte glazed tiles, minimizing the need for harsh cleaning agents. Its modular design allows for easy partial updates, preventing unnecessary resource waste. A curved glass partition maximizes natural light penetration, cutting down on daytime energy consumption. The palette of low-saturation neutrals, enhanced by timeless patterned tiles and glass, ensures lasting visual appeal, reducing waste from style obsolescence. By striking a balance between surrealistic artistry and contemporary livability, this project paves a new way for bringing niche aesthetics to the commercial market.
