This project involves a massage clinic designed to evoke the atmosphere of a luxury Japanese ryokan. It is situated within a commercial building in the business district of Osaka, one of Japan’s major cities. With soothing background music and the gentle scent of incense, it offers a deeply relaxing environment and has become popular with many businesspeople and international tourists.

Upon entering, visitors are greeted by a space reminiscent of a high-end Japanese ryokan. The design is simple, featuring a palette of neutral colours—black, grey and white—with brown wood grain accents.
Furthermore, the overall lighting is subdued, with indirect lighting effectively incorporated in key areas, creating a soothing atmosphere.

There are four treatment rooms, all of which are private. Compared to the entrance and corridors, the lighting is even more subdued. This is designed to help clients relax; in the dimly lit space, they can enjoy the fragrances and listen to Japanese background music whilst soothing their tired bodies.

Many chiropractic clinics in Japan tend to have sterile, minimalist designs, serving merely as places to heal the body; this clinic, however, is different. Its aim is not only to heal the body but also to soothe the mind. Consequently, the interior design is based on a clear concept, and the space evokes the atmosphere of a traditional Japanese ryokan.

Chiropractic clinics designed in this Japanese ryokan style are extremely rare, which is why many foreign tourists visit. In addition to the aim of healing the body, enjoying the Japanese atmosphere is also one of the objectives. It is also a place where visitors can catch a glimpse of Japanese culture.
