By 2007, Gilles had inaugurated his own studio, Alain Gilles The Studio, in Brussels, forging a multifaceted path in product design, furniture design, art direction, and even scenography. His collaborations span an array of international brands, such as Ligne Roset, BuzziSpace, and Miniforms, contributing innovative designs that blend functionality with aesthetic charm. Gilles’ design prowess has been lauded with multiple accolades, including the prestigious Henry Van De Velde and Design for Asia Golden Awards, as well as the coveted Red Dot Best of the Best and the Good Design Award. His role as the ‘Designer of the Year’ in 2012 by the Biennale Interieur Fair underscored his influence and impact on contemporary design. Gilles’ portfolio is particularly notable for its diversity, including collaborations with BuzziSpace, where he designed a collection that ranged from functional tables and sofas to acoustic office solutions. His work with Bonaldo showcased his versatility, crafting items from steel tables to wooden bookcases. For Greenmood, he integrated green living into acoustic solutions, reflecting a dedication to sustainable design practices. Alain Gilles continues to shape the world of design, merging his financial acumen with a designer’s creativity to create functional, yet striking, contributions to modern living spaces.
