Martinho Pita, based in Lisbon, is a creative visionary with a dynamic portfolio in the world of architecture and design. Graduating with a BA in Architecture and the Arts from the esteemed Edinburgh College of Art, he swiftly made his mark in the architectural realm by joining forces with prominent European firms like Aires Mateus in Lisbon and MVRDV in Rotterdam. Venturing beyond European borders, Martinho embarked on a transformative journey to India. Here, in collaboration with Urban Nouveau and NGO Sparcindia, he championed the “Incremental Housing Strategy” for the slums of Yerawada in Pune. His synergy with Urban Nouveau also birthed projects such as “Connecting-Stockholm” showcased at Sweden’s Architecture Museum. After a decade of living and working across over five countries and absorbing diverse global cultures, Martinho felt the pull of his roots. He returned to Lisbon, inspired to curate a unique project on the sunlit Southern coast of Europe. The result was TISA (The Informal School of Architecture), a groundbreaking initiative that brought together over 50 multidisciplinary students to breathe life into Cova do Vapor, a traditional fisherman’s village nestled on the outskirts of Lisbon. Embracing his expansive experience and a perpetual drive to innovate, Martinho founded Martinho Pita Studio. This venture stands as a testament to his commitment to interweaving tradition with contemporary design, evident in endeavors ranging from interior styling to bespoke architectural solutions. A standout in his design journey, “Bichos”, has been featured at revered international exhibitions such as “Futur Archaique” in Paris and “100% design 2013” in London, encapsulating Martinho’s multifaceted design brilliance.
