Raulino Silva, a native of Vila do Conde born in 1981, continues to call this city his home and workplace. Married with two children, he has collaborated with various architects in Porto, where he completed his architectural education at the Escola Superior Artística do Porto. During his studies, Silva took part in the Bergamo architecture workshop organized by the Faculty of Architecture of Milan in Italy. In 2011, he founded his architectural practice in his ancestral home in Bagunte, Vila do Conde. Silva’s work, especially in residential architecture, has been showcased in numerous exhibitions, notably the “Shine Exhibition” at the Big Design Festival in Ljubljana, “Best International Houses” by Platform Architecture and Design in Venice, and the Europe 40 Under 40 Awards by The European Centre for Architecture Art Design and Urban Studies in Athens. His designs are featured in a variety of magazines and books, including “The New Minimalist Style” by Loft Publications, “International Panorama Vol.2” by The Plan Magazine, “Contemporary Architecture” by Braun Publishing, “Raulino Silva – Portuguese Architect” by Uzina Books, and “Raulino Silva” in Archinews 57. Silva has shared his expertise as a speaker at The Plan Magazine’s Perspective Europe Forum in Italy, at Pecha Kucha Nights in Porto and Lisbon, and has been invited to present his projects at the “Advanced Architecture” conference in Mexico, the Big Design Festival in Ljubljana, Slovenia, and the Master of Architecture Seminar at the Escola Superior Artística do Porto. In recent years, he has served on the juries of several international competitions and awards, including those by Uni, Bee Breeders, Young Architects Competitions, the “Rethinking The Future Awards 2021,” and the Forma Award 2022. His built works have garnered numerous international accolades, notably the Grands Prix Du Design from Intérieurs Magazine in Canada, the 2A Continental Architectural Awards from 2A Magazine in Dubai, the IF Design Awards by IF International Forum Design in Germany, the International Architecture Awards by The Chicago Athenaeum Museum of Architecture and Design in the USA, the Baku International Architecture Award by the Union of Architects of Azerbaijan, and the Iconic Awards by the German Design Council. In 2019, Silva was honored with the Medal of Merit from the City of Vila do Conde, presented by the city’s executive body. Silva’s journey as an architect includes membership in the Order of Portuguese Architects and the establishment of Raulino Silva Arquitecto Unipessoal Lda. Between 2006 and 2011, he honed his skills as a freelancer and in collaboration with Porto architects. Since 2011, he has led his Vila do Conde architecture office, tackling diverse projects in single-family, multi-family, and equipment design. Silva’s designs have won prestigious architectural awards such as the IF Design Awards 2019 in Germany, the Build Architecture Awards 2019 in England, the World Architecture and Design Awards 2019 in India, among many others. His influence extends beyond his practice as he contributes to the architectural community as a speaker, judge, and innovator. His work is not only recognized for its design excellence but also for its significant contribution to contemporary architectural discourse.
