The land, which is located in the northeast of the island of Cyprus, has an intriguingly challenging features which are being approximately 270m above sea level, rich in mountain and sea views waiting to be exposed by the design. The slope which has 8 meters in itself has been another excitement waiting to be explored.
The house has been designed with the most enjoyable functions at the top of the land in order to emphasize the importance of feeling the stunning views from every single corner. The masses designed at different angles allow the mountain and sea view to be felt inside the house. A cul-de-sac defining the entrance of the house has been designed in conjunction with the dead-end public road. The ramp which starts from the road level is 8 meters down and takes you to the upper level of the main entrance of the house.
Different outdoor functions have been designed for different land levels and different facilities are being created for each level. The 3 en-suite bedrooms on the first floor, together with all the main spaces, have been positioned to enjoy the beautiful endless sea view. The 4th guest bedroom has been located towards the west facade, positioned in distance with the family rooms, embracing the mountain view. The kitchen, dining area and living room have been designed as open plan. Exterior terraces have been designed in a way that a connection between all ground floor spaces has been achieved.
Particular emphasis has been placed on the master bedroom which has been designed as a cantilever of 4-meter over the pool, making use of the topography difference of the land in order to give it an endless feeling.
Access elements have been designed so that various areas of the residence can be accessed from all four sides of the land slope, which gradually rises to the first floor. The interior staircase designed from basement up to the roof, aims to bring the rooftop seating areas, green roof gardens and the highest point of the view to life.
Most of the house is completely covered with natural stone, especially the ground floor facades in order to adapt to the natural environment of the land. The design, not only eliminates the boundaries of indoor and outdoor spaces with wide glass facades, but also enables the green vegetation to be felt more in the house with the gradually designed flower beds.
Taking place in an action of what I’ve gained from my professional career is, not staying ‘stable’. Binding contemporary approach with innovative disciplines is the main basis of progress in my career. Since 2009 after completing Master’s degree in UCA in Kent UK, I’m running a free-lance architectural office with my team designing mostly residential projects. Office is in Kyrenia, Cyprus. Using different types of application techniques gives a unique identity to every project. The role of an architect has to be providing full functioning and aesthetic work of arts to the environment.
