Cartu Food Court is conceived as a contemporary urban landmark that reinterprets the traditional food court typology as a civic, social, and cultural destination. Located in the heart of Tbilisi, the capital of Georgia, within one of the city’s oldest historic districts, the project acts as a new urban condenser, bringing together gastronomy, public life, and the city’s evolving relationship with its landscape.

The building is defined by a bold, fluid roof that appears to hover above a transparent and permeable volume. The roof is clad in durable PVDF-coated metal panels, providing a resilient form that responds to riverside climatic conditions, ensures long-term performance with minimal maintenance, and reinforces the building’s visual identity along the Mtkvari River. Extensive glazing dissolves the boundary between interior and exterior, ensuring openness, accessibility, and continuous visual connection to the surrounding cityscape.

Internally, the space is organized as an open, flexible platform supporting a wide range of culinary concepts. Clear circulation connects dining areas, communal seating, and informal gathering zones, encouraging prolonged stay and social interaction. The layout transforms the food court from a purely transactional space into a lively setting for everyday meetings, leisure, and urban exchange.

Sustainability is embedded through passive shading, efficient daylighting, a compact structural system, and durable materials, while landscaping extends the architecture into the riverside context. Cartu Food Court emerges as a contemporary civic space where expressive form, functional clarity, material durability, and social impact converge, contributing a distinctive and forward-looking layer to Tbilisi’s urban fabric.
