The design firm was tasked to reimagine the new home for a luxury bath and kitchen brand. The client’s vision was to move the existing showroom to the second floor of their design store. Consolidating everything under one roof, would create a streamlined shopping experience and become a go-to destination.
The new space would introduce an array of luxury branded products, reinforce their reputation for their curated collections alongside their excellent customer service. It would create stronger customer experience by having a more functional environment, as well as showcasing more products while highlighting their existing collections.
Innovation is found in the way the designers broke the 20 000 sq. ft. space. The first impression was as if walking into an art gallery within an industrial warehouse. The uniqueness of the architecture incited the designers to keep the integrity of the building and play with the concept of the art gallery.
Zones were created with volumes called “Pavilions”. The black metal frames and frosted glass pavilions take their cues from the existing clerestories of the warehouse and serve as mini galleries to display the product lines, while help delimitate a primary circulation path, making the space more to human scale. The idea behind the semi-translucent glass allows for kinetic movement, creating a sense of curiosity for what is beyond.
To enhance the aesthetic and functionality, all materiality was purposely chosen to be matte. Since most products are polished metals, the resulting effect is that the collections shine against the matte surfaces.
Instead of signage, colors, and shapes guide customers through the spaces. Pop of colors act as a backdrop for the visual merchandising and function as canvases for seasonal displays.
A request was to ensure that the store would have functional working stations. These areas were created to be user friendly, comfortable for extended consultations and are made of warm wood to foster a welcoming feeling.
As a nod to the gallery concept, custom designed monolithic sculptural displays, at times brutalist in form, cast an industrial feel. The simplicity in the design allows the client flexibility to create vignettes as well as showcasing more products.
To ensure an intuitive shopping experience, complementary zones were strategically placed adjacent to one another.
The success of the design is embedded in the originality of the team’s creative solutions. The innovative infusion of highly functional and approachable sub-spaces within a large volume has created an enduring environment that will instill consumer confidence and stand the test of time. The team pushed the boundaries with a sophisticated, modern, and elegant design. In the end, the vision of unifying the essence of the client’s new brand direction under one roof was fulfilled.
