Metyis Technology Center — Gondomar, Portugal
Architecture as a Catalyst for Human Experience

The Metyis Technology Center exemplifies our studio’s belief that architecture is fundamentally about people — their experiences, emotions, and interactions. More than a formal or functional solution, the project embodies a vision where architecture becomes an active instrument in shaping the way we live and work.

Our philosophy is rooted in placing human experience at the center of architectural thinking. Every project seeks a conceptual synthesis that merges form, symbolism, and lived experience — an architecture that is both beautiful and meaningful. In the Metyis Headquarters, this synthesis takes form through a design that not only responds to the site and program but also expresses the values and aspirations of a global, forward-thinking company.

Set within the landscape of Gondomar, the building engages sensitively with its topography and natural surroundings. It asserts itself through a timeless and elegant composition, where clean volumes and noble materials create an image of refinement and permanence. The architecture’s restraint and precision convey the identity of Metyis — a company defined by excellence, innovation, and strategic vision.

Inside, the design extends beyond aesthetics to shape the culture of work. Spaces are conceived to enhance creativity, focus, and collaboration — transforming the workplace into a tool for performance and inspiration. The interiors balance luxury and restraint, achieved not through excess but through the harmony of space, light, and materiality. This sense of refined comfort fosters a stimulating atmosphere, aligning with Metyis’ mission to attract and empower talent.

Each environment — from open collaborative zones to private offices and meeting areas — contributes to a spatial narrative that promotes dialogue and individuality in equal measure. Circulation flows naturally, encouraging spontaneous encounters while maintaining clarity and order. Carefully curated finishes and bespoke furniture pieces reinforce the building’s coherence, while natural light and generous volumes heighten the sense of well-being.

The project reflects our studio’s commitment to understanding tradition and tectonics as the foundation for contemporary architecture. By studying how space influences behavior, we create buildings that transcend mere functionality, engaging with human perception and emotion. In the case of Metyis, this approach translates into an architecture that mirrors the company’s global identity — precise, intelligent, and human-centered.

Ultimately, the Metyis Headquarters stands as a manifesto of our architectural ethos: an architecture that acts, inspires, and transforms. It demonstrates how thoughtful design can become a strategic instrument for innovation, an active human architecture.

Oficina de Projetos de Arquitetura UNUM,Lda.

At UNUM, we believe architecture shapes human behavior. This conviction guides our entire conceptual and design process. We place people at the center of architectural thinking — buildings exist for their use, individually or collectively. Therefore, we see architecture as far more than a formal or functional response; it is a synthesis that unites beauty, meaning, and experience. “I believe architecture is an active instrument in shaping how society lives. People live, work, and find joy in spaces designed by architects; thus, architecture must contribute to a richer human experience. That is our responsibility and my vision of architecture.” — Miguel Ibraim da Rocha, Founder of UNUM. Rooted in Portugal’s strong architectural and construction tradition, UNUM seeks a contemporary approach to today’s challenges. Through rigorous study of how architecture influences human behavior and its environment, we respond with skill and sensitivity to every project.
