The stoneware ELEPHANT FEET is based on the work of the porcelain artist with whom we work. He has been experimenting with celadon colours for over 20 years, exploring their variations and reactions by changing the composition of the minerals, the firing temperatures and the composition of the air. In this way, he achieves beautiful soft-matte and soft-shiny hues in all variations from sky blue to off-white steel blue to earthy green, which form the basis of his artistic work.
The groups of colourful pots he forms to test new glaze mixtures or variations and their interaction with the firing temperature and oxygen saturation form a poetic blue-green composition in the workshop. The interaction between the artist and the expertise of our producers has enabled us to recreate the vibrant multicolour and depth of the glazes and make them available for mass production.
In addition to the colour variations, the irregular shapes of ELEPHANT FEET reflect the workshop process of testing the glazes. In collaboration with the artist, we further developed the shapes of the small, hand-potted test forms and transferred them to a series of cups, plates and bowls. The deliberately amorphous-organic randomness of this interplay of forms contributes to the lively impression of ELEPHANT FEET.
ELEPHANT FEET in stoneware is available in eight shapes: three plate sizes, three bowls and two cups.

MAOMI
About MAOMI
MAOMI brand is to preserve and reward time-honoured craftsmanship within signature modern design. E.g. the blue and green shades of ELEPHANT Feet tableware are based on research into ancient celadon glazes from the Ming Dynasty and bring them in modern workshop context.
Every single product line is based on a different ancient handcraft technique and contains its unique artistical approach. We have made it our mission to think and develop classic design further: timeless aesthetics and reduction, natural materials, haptic experience and craft techniques.
None of our products are mass-produced but created in the course of a slow design. As the individual design objects are handcrafted – handmade stoneware and hand-turned porcelain, but also handmade wooden products – each is unique, no two are the same. Workshop-to-workshop design instead of 3D file design and industrial mass production. Expertise grown over years is involved from the development to the production.
