BOX arquitectos has designed the interiors of Think Health, a naturopathy clinic in Ponta Delgada, Portugal. The studio used pastel green as the main colour, and picked colours and materials that give the rooms a calm, natural feel. The architects are at boxarquitectos.com.
A reception in two parts
The reception is minimal and is split into two zones. The first holds a curved desk and a wall shelf. The second, painted pastel green, serves as the waiting area and leads to the office.
Shelving for an angled wall
One wall of the reception is given over to storage and display. The white shelves follow a triangular pattern, which suits the angled shape of the room and keeps the wall light.
Colour as a boundary
There are no partitions between the zones of the open area. A line set into the floor and a change of wall colour do the job instead. The reception stays in a neutral tone, while the waiting area and office turn pastel green.
In the waiting area, small square green tiles and the flooring mark out the space. Plants and furniture in matching tones complete it.
Office and bathroom
The office sits behind glass walls framed in wood. They give a view into the room and let daylight pass through. Inside, the back wall is lined with storage and includes a small counter with a sink and a tiled backsplash.
A bathroom is kept out of sight behind a white door. Its walls are finished in green tiles, carrying the clinic palette into the smallest room.
Using colour to zone a small space
As a general point, changing the floor or wall colour is a simple way to separate functions in a compact open plan. It keeps sight lines and daylight intact where walls would block them.
