International Architecture & Design Awards (IADA) 2027
Hospitals, clinics, schools and universities are buildings that shape everyday life for patients, staff, students and teachers. The International Architecture & Design Awards (IADA) recognise healthcare and education architecture in dedicated nominations, evaluated by an independent international jury. This page covers those nominations, the IADA 2027 fees and deadlines and recent winners. For the interiors of these buildings, see our IADA healthcare and education interiors category page.
Why enter the healthcare and education buildings category of IADA?
Healthcare and education buildings are commissioned by public bodies, universities and operators who look for evidence of design quality. An independent award gives the architecture documented, third-party recognition that architects can cite in future tenders and in communication with clients and communities.
Each IADA winner receives a published winner page with the project description, images, design team and credits. Certificates, winner logos and graphic materials are available in the participant account, and a physical trophy can be ordered separately; it is optional. IADA is organised by Architecture & Design Community (ADC) and has run since 2019; IADA 2027 lists 19 disciplines and 640 nominations in total.
Healthcare and education nominations at IADA 2027
These nominations cover healthcare and education buildings and their grounds. Choose the nomination that matches the principal use of the building; each additional nomination is paid separately.
| Nomination | Discipline | Typical projects |
|---|---|---|
| Healthcare & Medical Facility Design | Architecture | Hospitals, clinics, care and wellness buildings |
| Educational & Campus Design | Architecture | Schools, universities and campus buildings |
| Institutional & Educational Landscape Design | Landscape | Campus grounds and school landscapes |
Interiors of hospitals, clinics, schools and libraries have their own nominations; see our IADA healthcare and education interiors category page. Compare all options on the IADA categories and nominations page, and see our IADA public and cultural buildings category page for civic buildings.
Built projects and concepts
IADA accepts both completed buildings and unbuilt concepts, and the project status is shown on each winner page. Recent winners include ERPI Coimbra in Portugal, a completed Platinum winner in Healthcare & Medical Facility Design, and NEW Neighbourhood for Educational Wonder in Ukraine, a Platinum winner in Educational & Campus Design presented as a concept. Students are judged by the same jury against the same criteria and receive a 50% discount on everything except trophies.

How healthcare and education buildings are judged
Each member of the jury evaluates every project in its nomination against three criteria:
- Innovation & Originality: the strength of the architectural idea within the functional brief.
- Design & Aesthetic Quality: form, light, materials and the quality of the spaces.
- Functionality & Spatial Integration: how the building serves patients, staff, students and teachers, and relates to its site.
The jury scores each entry against these published criteria and the scores are averaged. The highest-ranked projects receive Platinum, Gold, Silver or Bronze awards, and Honourable Mentions may also be given. Meet the jury on the IADA jury page.
