ANSAYA PHUKET is a one-story pool villa on Phuket’s western coast. The developer desires the architecture to be distinct from the majority of Bali- and modern-style homes in the area. As the project is located in Thailand, the primary objective is to imbue it with a Thai flavor. Developers want the architecture and identity of the design to reflect the country of origin. The villa’s Double I-Shape design encourages natural ventilation.

The primary concept that influenced and inspired the design is the combination of Thai heritage house architecture and layout, which dominated much of central Thailand from the 14th to the 18th century. The conventional image of a Thai house, a tall, thin structure with a steeply sloping roof, is actually representative of the Ayutthaya period. ANSAYA PHUKET will be a contemporary extension of Thai cultural heritage architecture design.

The villa’s Double I-Shape design encourages natural ventilation. The solid ventilation in the center of the double I-shape contributes to the improvement of ventilation in the rooms of each I-shape. The master plan and house layout are perfectly aligned with Thailand’s northeast and southwest wind seasons. In many areas of the villa, laths were used to provide residents with privacy and ventilation. The laths are designed with a 45-degree angle to increase users’ privacy while maintaining ventilation.

CFD (Computer Fluid Dynamics) was utilized during the design phase. Multiple simulations were conducted to determine the optimal layout and design for wind ventilation in the project area. During the design and construction phases, a wind speed meter anemometer was also used to verify the actual number and situation to be analyzed and to enhance the performance of certain functions. For instance, the lath degree was redesigned after the wind speed and direction of the site was measured with an anemometer.
