This residence, spread over two floors, is a beautiful amalgamation of old-world charm and contemporary lifestyle that pays homage to the look-feel of a generational bungalow yet celebrates the modern. The abode follows two distinctly different themes for the spaces, paying heed to the people who would be using them.
The 3,000 sq. ft. ground floor has all the common areas for the entire family to congregate, the sanctified pooja room and the regal staircase that connects all the floors. Predominantly Art Deco elements that adorn the spaces here engulf all generations in their warmth. The rooms on this floor open out into a quaint garden space.
A deck equipped with a bespoke bar station connects the indoors and outdoors, providing a seamless transition. The landscaped garden renders the whole house with its lively spirit. The wooden staircase is an extraordinary element in this residence and sports the perfect blend of the two prevailing styles of this house.
The blend of Art Deco and modernism strikes a perfect balance, showcased through unique elements like marble inlay, bespoke wallpaper, modern furniture, and artwork that adorn the walls. The flexible design spaces can easily adapt to meet the changing needs of the family.
The pooja room on the first landing is another sterling example of fusion that is the design language of the house. A curious palette of greys and gold marries modern elements with traditional ones, reinforcing the house’s theme. An asymmetrical layout of miniature temple columns takes inspiration from various Indian temples from across India.
The upper floor is a Zen-inspired abode for a family of four. This 2,000 sq.ft. Space has a functional and modern layout, the undertones of Japanese elements and Scandinavian sensibilities give rise to the distinct Japandi style prevalent here. It celebrates muted and understated elements that emphasize the spatial experience. The house is interspersed with plants that add a vibrant touch to its muted palette.
The use of abstract forms and shells accentuates the peaceful Zen ambience of this home. As natural light filters through this house throughout the day, the space comes to life and speaks of calmness and contentment. Materials like Rattan, terracotta, round-edged furniture, muted colours modern yet quirky elements to suit the needs of the young family, all come together to create an interactive, seamless, soft and soothing spaces that converse with the senses in the Japandi language.
Pooja’s design language of fusing disparate styles with the use of rich materials like marble and oak wood in a classic, timeless colour palette on the lower floors and abstract, muted tones with Zen appeal on the upper level, establishes the blended ethos of this home. A combination of luxury and tradition with the appropriate touch of modernism gives birth to this captivating residence, where every corner leads to a design discovery.
