The project location lies in proximity to the majestic Chao Phraya River. This exquisite room, nearly three decades old.

Design Concept: Our design concept draws inspiration from the traditional Thai house known as “Ruean Kanom Pang Khing,” which is known for its unique design character. We have used this traditional design as a foundation, while modernizing the details and incorporating the principles of natural ventilation to create a space that conserves energy while showcasing the beauty of Thai architecture.

Design Limitation: The low floor-to-floor height of the 30-year-old building and outdated system presented a challenge, requiring us to replace the entire system to achieve maximum ceiling height and increase the number of windows. Despite these limitations, we have created a space that is both functional and visual stunning.

The challenge we faced was to create a natural ventilation system that maintains privacy for the room’s owner without having to open the door. Additionally, we had to raise the ceiling height to create a sense of spaciousness without making the room feel cramped. These design elements were crucial in achieving the desired result for our client.

Material Innovation: In selecting light-colored materials, we aimed to brighten the room, reduce the need for artificial lighting and utilize more natural lighting during the day. We also designed the lighting system to avoid direct glare and carefully calculated the lighting levels to provide sufficient brightness in necessary areas, which helps to reduce energy costs. Our commitment for sustainable design is reflected in every detail of this project.

Our design environmental and innovative concept prioritizes energy conservation concept, achieved through a clever combination of custom wooden doors that promote natural airflow, complemented by strategic vent placement that channels refreshing breezes from the Chao Phraya River, providing optimal room ventilation without relying on air conditioning system. To meet the client’s requirements, we have also incorporated a maximum number of sizable windows, which not only amplifies the stunning view but also allows ample daylight to stream into the room, eliminating the need for artificial lighting from dawn until dusk.

As located near the majestic Chao Phraya River, this project is nestled in the historic Rattanakosin Island of Bangkok’s Phra Nakhon district. Drawing inspiration from the traditional Thai house, “Khanom Pang Khing,” the design concept was reimagined to fit the room owner’s functional needs while still retaining the charm of the original design. The incorporation of features like air vents from the traditional design enhances ventilation and adds to the natural ambiance. Furthermore, the project pays homage to the details of the classic wooden walls while modifying them to fit seamlessly into the modernized design.
