Blanche combines French décor with contemporary design, creating an elegant yet cozy space with a white palette, indirect lighting, and simplistic forms. Highlights include a concave ceiling in the 2nd floor dining room, a circular layout in the master bedroom, and a kid’s room with divided play and sleep areas. The 1st floor drawing room has a casual business vibe, featuring a counter with special piping and cable management capability. Paned glass doors between the living and dining areas help contain fumes and boost energy efficiency, while eco-friendly materials and modular furniture enhance health and space optimization. Blanche is a fusion of simplified French decor style and contemporary interior design elements. The refreshing white color, paired with modern lighting and subtle shapes and forms, creates a minimalistic yet elegant design. The homeowners are a married couple with an elementary schooler, the aesthetics of Blanche mainly caters to the wife’s stylistic preferences. The designer utilizes classical decorative moldings but keeps the overall interior simple, making the space feel both refined and cozy. Blanche uses mainly indirect lighting to avoid harsh brightness in a nearly all white space, with strategically placed light stripes strengthening the luminosity of essential areas. The ceiling-and-lighting combination on the second-floor dining room is a highlight of the project: The rounded edge and the circular shapes create an illusory softness, and the pendant light and the round table extend the design vertically. The space serves as the center of the common area, with the concavity symbolically drawing people closer.
The avoidance of complex decoration is a choice not only aesthetics-wise but also in usability. The master bedroom features a circular layout: the sleeping area is kept simple, and the wardrobes and built-in vanity are arranged on the opposite side of the wall, allowing the couple to not disturb each other’s sleep when having different schedules, yet still enjoys the connectivity between areas. The window design on the side of the vanity allows for natural light to come through during daytime and brings a touch of French elegance to the room. A half-height partition wall divides the kid’s room on the 4th floor into two areas, a play area and a sleeping area, giving the kid a dedicated space for casual activities. The first floor is a drawing room for gatherings and meetings, dark colors are used to contrast the white, creating an atmosphere different from the living spaces upstairs. Built-in display cabinets were installed to enhance the functionality and the business casual vibe of the 1st floor. The counter is designed with special cable and piping management capability, catering to the husband’s love for home-brew coffee. The light stripes incorporated in the wall facade add a modern touch to the room, completing a perfect space for both business and a simple coffee time with friends.
