The city of Victorville worked with Connect Homes to deliver the Victorville Wellness Center, completed and opened for transitional housing in December 2023. The decision was made to go with a modular prefab solution due to the aggressiveness of the timeframes to open and budget. Connect Homes was selected due to the patented steel moment frame, adding stability and longevity to units, as well as the use of floor-to-ceiling glass.

The Victorville Wellness Center provides a holistic approach to addressing the needs of those experiencing homelessness. Built entirely off-site – the modular prefab method deployed here is as bold as how Victorville chooses to confront the problem of homelessness. Spanning 4.5 acres, this 26,000sf low-barrier, non-congregate emergency housing project gives every resident their own private and dignified dwelling space. The spaces are small and spartan – but crucially – they are private. Only residents know the keycodes to their room.

The Center is designed to facilitate the transition of individuals into stable, permanent living situations. The six community buildings – totaling 10,000sf – provide an unprecedented range of support facilities. These include an onsite medical rehabilitation clinic, a wellness center, and a recuperative center.
At Victorville Wellness Center, 110 private sleeping rooms provide 170 beds. While the sleeping rooms are small, floor-to-ceiling glass on two sides of each room give residents access to light, air, and views of the surrounding high-desert landscape, making small spaces feel larger. Indeed, across the campus the extensive use of glass and site-built decking strengthens the connection between private sleeping clusters and community buildings, and provides the residents with a level of humanity often missing in transitional housing.

This unique and innovative campus provides individuals a level of privacy, comfort, and security in a designated living unit (single, double, and/or family occupancy). Campus features include:
• Multiple restrooms & showers for men and women (family units have private restrooms)
• Medical clinic (3 exam rooms)
• Cafeteria & Dining Hall
• Recreation/Lounge Area
• Various Office Spaces
• Private Interview Rooms
• Personal Storage Bins
• Kennel areas & dog walk

While going prefab helped the client achieve aggressive budget and timeline goals – what is really special here is Victorville Wellness Center’s deft integration of private, community, and outdoor space – pointing towards a new way of helping people get back on their feet and integrated into the community.

“This is a haven of hope, healing and opportunity that will break the cycle of homelessness and improve the quality of life for so many in our community,” City Manager Keith Metzler said.

Connect Homes

Connect Homes is a prefabricated modular builder designing in LA and building homes in factories in San Bernadino and Mesa. We offer a full vertical integration for our clients, with architects and engineers to guide clients through the design, planning and permitting process, before building modules to 90% of completion in factory and doing the delivery and install onto the foundations.

Founded by architects, who wanted prefab homes to be beautiful, we have a patented steel moment frame, which allows for greater structural stability and longevity, as well as allowing the use of floor to ceilings windows to connect clients with their outdoor spaces.

We offer clients single family residences, townhomes and supportive housing products to solve any of today’s housing needs. All of these products maintain our original DNA of open spaces and lots of natural light.
