Tripadvisor, a global leader in travel and tourism, recognised the need to adapt its Oxford office to align with modern workplace dynamics. Previously located in a business park, the office had become too large and underutilised as many employees transitioned to remote work. Tripadvisor sought to reimagine and condense their space into a dynamic, flexible environment that reflects their innovative ethos and the sophistication of a high-end hotel. The goal was to create a workplace that fosters creativity, collaboration, and productivity while catering to diverse workforce needs. By introducing adaptable work settings, Tripadvisor transformed the office into a vibrant hub that encourages on-site work while remaining welcoming and inspiring.

The design reflects a hospitality-inspired aesthetic, blending modernity with Oxford’s architectural heritage. A palette inspired by Oxford’s limestone tones, including shades of bronze, caramel, and turmeric, creates a warm and inviting atmosphere. Geometric patterns, reminiscent of English Perpendicular Gothic architecture, add a sense of rhythmic elegance, while a combination of rough and smooth stone textures adds depth and visual interest. Neutral tones establish harmony, while bespoke dark veneers provide contrast and sophistication, honouring Oxford’s legacy while elevating the office’s style.

The layout features activity-based spaces to support varying work preferences. The ground floor serves as a vibrant hub with bustling canteen areas, a ping pong table, and open spaces for collaboration. The quieter first floor includes Tripadvisor whisper rooms for focused work and smaller social areas, addressing the needs of different departments, from high-energy sales teams to tranquil engineering teams.

Acoustic solutions, including baffles inspired by Oxford’s architecture, manage noise levels, while adjustable lighting supports various work modes. Lamps subtly evoke Tripadvisor’s logo, reinforcing brand identity. Biophilic design elements such as wood, stone, and forest accents enhance wellbeing, creating a healthier, more invigorating work environment.

The office integrates advanced technology to support a hybrid workplace model. High-quality video conferencing systems and booking platforms for desks and meeting rooms enable seamless communication and efficient space management. A space utilisation platform provides insights for ongoing optimisation.

The redesigned office now serves as a benchmark for modern workplace design, blending flexibility, hospitality-inspired aesthetics, and innovative technology to prioritise employee satisfaction and productivity.
