VIVA VITAL is located next to a nature reserve on the outskirts of Stuttgart. The family bought the house, which dates back to 1962, because of its quiet and idyllic location. The architects were given free rein to modernize the building, taking into account current and sustainable energy standards to breathe new life into the well-kept but dilapidated existing house.
The good substance of the detached house made it possible to design an open room concept and meet current living requirements without having to compromise. Measures such as enlarging the window areas and adding skylights created light-flooded rooms for living and entertaining. An extension made it possible to accommodate the desired room program. To ensure comfortable living in old age, all uses are arranged on the first floor without thresholds.
The opposing canopies and the curves of the building create several exciting perspectives and complement the dynamic appearance. The inviting, generous curves along the carefully designed façade lead visitors through a covered entrance to the residential building.
Statically necessary measures were already taken into account in the furniture concept at the beginning of the planning stage and do not come to the fore. Despite the open floor plan design, the focus was on zoning the rooms as comfortably as possible with built-in furniture and ceiling recesses.
Integrative planning, which includes lighting, bathrooms, kitchen, garden and the customization of practically all furniture, reflects the architect’s high standards and attention to detail. For example, a retractable TV ensures a communicative coexistence between the living and dining areas. Integrated wall cladding separates the private rooms from the main living space.
The floor-to-ceiling glazing allows for open-plan living from inside to outside. Despite the expansive views and the extension of the garden, privacy is guaranteed in every area of the house. Outside, a covered dining area with integrated shading and a view of the greenery, which is gently illuminated by spotlights in the plant kingdom at night, invites you to linger and reVITALize.
