IADA 2027: Industrial Buildings Category

International Architecture & Design Awards (IADA) logoInternational Architecture & Design Awards (IADA) 2027

Factories, production plants, warehouses and data centres are some of the largest buildings being designed today, and the best of them combine efficiency with real architectural quality. The International Architecture & Design Awards (IADA) recognise industrial architecture in a dedicated nomination, evaluated by an independent international jury. This page covers that nomination, how industrial projects are judged, the IADA 2027 fees and deadlines and recent winners.

Why enter the industrial buildings category of IADA?

Industrial buildings are often judged only on cost and schedule. An independent award documents the design quality of the project, the working environment it creates and its place in the landscape, and gives architects and clients third-party recognition they can cite with future clients.

Each IADA winner receives a published winner page with the project description, images, design team and credits. Certificates, winner logos and graphic materials are available in the participant account; a physical trophy can be ordered separately. IADA is organised by Architecture & Design Community (ADC) and has run since 2019; IADA 2027 lists 19 disciplines and 640 nominations in total.

Industrial nominations at IADA 2027

The main nomination is Industrial & Manufacturing Facilities in the Architecture discipline. Landscapes for industrial sites and unbuilt industrial concepts have their own nominations; each additional nomination is paid separately.

Nomination Discipline Typical projects
Industrial & Manufacturing Facilities Architecture Factories, plants, warehouses, logistics and data centres
Industrial & Manufacturing Landscape Design Landscape Landscape design for industrial sites and campuses
Industrial & Manufacturing Design Conceptual Unbuilt concepts for industry and production

Offices and headquarters are covered on our IADA commercial and mixed-use buildings category page. Compare all options on the IADA categories and nominations page.

Built projects and concepts

IADA accepts both completed projects and unbuilt concepts, and the project status is shown on each winner page. Recent winners include Miroku Nissho Factory in Japan by Kawada Industries, Inc. + MR STUDIO Co., Ltd., a completed Platinum winner, and The Distillery Forge in Cyprus by SK Architects, a Platinum winner presented as a concept. Students are judged by the same jury against the same criteria and receive a 50% discount on everything except trophies.

How industrial projects are judged

Each member of the jury evaluates every project in its nomination against three criteria:

  • Innovation & Originality: the architectural idea within a technical and economic brief.
  • Design & Aesthetic Quality: form, structure, materials and the quality of the working environment.
  • Functionality & Spatial Integration: production flows, logistics, flexibility and how the building fits its site.

The jury scores each entry against these published criteria and the scores are averaged. The highest-ranked projects receive Platinum, Gold, Silver or Bronze awards, and Honourable Mentions may also be given. Meet the jury on the IADA jury page.

Preparing a strong industrial entry

  • Explain the brief: the process housed in the building, capacity and technical constraints.
  • Show how people work in the building, not only the exterior.
  • Include site plans and sections that explain logistics, daylight and services.
  • State the project status (built or concept) and credit the full team, including engineers.

Our guide How to enter IADA covers the materials you need and the order in which to prepare them.
