Axis Mundi Design

In 2004, John Beckmann founded Axis Mundi, leveraging his academic background in philosophy and visual culture from the New School and studies in architecture, interior, and industrial design at Parsons School of Design. He earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Environmental Design during his time at Parsons, where he apprenticed under the guidance of the master minimalist Joseph P. D’Urso. Beckmann has cultivated a keen understanding of the intersections among architecture, design, and contemporary art throughout his career.
His accolades include the Best Residential Interior award for 432 Park Avenue at ArchMarathon (2020) and recognition as one of the 15 Best Residential Architects and Designers in New York by New York Architects (2020). Beckmann has received a grant from the Graham Foundation for Advanced Studies in the Fine Arts (1998) and a MacDowell Colony Fellowship (2010). His work has been published in Dezeen, DesignBoom, Domus, Hyperbeast, Fast Company, among many others.
