This project entails the renovation of an old house into a commercial space featuring a yakiniku restaurant and bar. The design preserves the historical elements of the original residence while integrating industrial materials and Japanese-inspired warmth. A Japanese-style garden entrance and outdoor pathway seamlessly connect the two main areas: the yakiniku grill and the bar, enhancing the overall experience. This space reflects the brand’s enduring spirit, inviting guests to appreciate the essence of time and engage in meaningful dining and social interactions.
The design prioritizes customer experience, transforming the brand ethos into a contemporary environment. An entrance garden serves as a tranquil urban oasis, inviting guests to explore the interior, unwind, and engage with the ambiance. The dual-core layout fosters a dynamic interaction between day and night, as well as between movement and stillness. Japanese-inspired warmth is reflected in the material details, highlighting the owner’s marketplace roots. This approach strengthens emotional connections and fosters meaningful interactions between the brand and its customers.
The outdoor landscaping draws inspiration from Japanese gardens and kare-sansui (dry landscape) aesthetics, seamlessly integrating natural elements into the urban environment. Both storefronts feature interior walls that combine concrete with red brick, emphasizing the rugged beauty of layered materials. The yakiniku area showcases an industrial design with a soaring sloped roof and exposed wooden beams, while the bar section reflects modern sophistication through stainless steel facades and expansive glass panels. The diverse use of materials—metal, ironwork, and wood—enhances the spatial experience, creating a dynamic and expressive atmosphere.
The space is expertly designed to accommodate dining, socializing, and relaxation. In the main dining area of the yakiniku section, a long concrete bar counter is provided, allowing guests to closely observe the chefs during the grilling process. This design promotes an interactive dining experience. The sofa seating located at the rear of the yakiniku area is designated for regular customers. The wood-paneled walls and a fireplace contribute to an ambiance reminiscent of a Japanese living room, thereby creating a comfortable setting for relaxation and social gatherings. The bar area is furnished with soft seating and moon-shaped lighting fixtures. The low-level lighting fosters an intimate atmosphere conducive to socialization and establishes a casual drinking environment tailored to a younger demographic. Furthermore, the kitchen’s grill workstation and organized storage system significantly improve operational efficiency, ensuring seamless and safe back-of-house operations.

The name T.J. carries deep meaning—T stands for harmony and construction, while J conveys responsibility and trust. Together, these values reflect our commitment to building with integrity and care.
As brothers, we continue the legacy of our father’s more than thirty years of design philosophy. At the same time, we integrate the knowledge and perspectives gained from our studies in Canada, blending tradition with contemporary design thinking.
Our work is rooted in a human-centered approach. We believe in designing not for design’s sake, but through constant communication and dialogue to truly understand the needs of each user. With every project, we strive to create spaces that embody a better vision for living—designs that inherit the past, innovate for the present, and connect people with warmth.
