Design firm SOLAR has completed BRANDO, an ice cream shop in Madrid, Spain. The project relies on colour to make a statement and draw in people walking along the street.

One strong blue

The whole interior is painted in a bold, bright blue. The colour gives the shop a playful and lively mood that is meant to catch the eye of passers-by.

Counter and display

One side of the shop holds the counter and the display case where the ice creams are shown. The case stands on a concrete base, which contrasts with the blue around it.

A large round light with an orange glow is set against the blue wall and gives it a warm accent.

Window seating and ceiling

Counter seating runs along the windows on the opposite wall. The brick on this side was painted to match the rest of the interior.

The ceiling is painted the same blue, so the ducting and light tracks recede rather than compete with the room.

Using a single colour in a small shop

As a general point, painting walls, ceiling and services in one colour can make a small space read as a single volume and hide technical elements that would otherwise look cluttered.
