Freshfield Lane produces a distinctive range of clamp-fired stock-facing bricks, offered in a rich palette of colours and finishes. Available in both machine-made and handmade formats, each brick carries natural variation and depth, delivering texture and character that sit comfortably within both traditional and contemporary architecture.

Manufactured at our Danehill works in Sussex, Freshfield Lane combines modern production techniques with time-honoured brickmaking methods. A dedicated team produces a full range of facing bricks and clay pavers, ensuring consistency, quality and flexibility across a wide variety of project requirements. The resulting products are sympathetic to their surroundings, providing a natural and considered finish that enhances the built environment.

Freshfield Lane bricks are recognised for their warm, earthy tones and authentic appearance. Their visual softness and subtle variation allow them to complement diverse architectural styles, from historic contexts to new developments. These qualities have made Freshfield Lane a trusted choice for architects, self-builders and premium housebuilders alike.

Clamp-fired stock bricks have long been valued for their durability and sustainability. Made from natural clay and fired using traditional methods, Freshfield Lane bricks offer long-term performance, ageing gracefully over time while retaining their colour and texture. They are a material choice that balances aesthetic appeal with responsible construction, delivering buildings that remain attractive and robust for generations.

Freshfield Lane bricks are used across a wide range of residential, mixed-use and regeneration projects throughout the UK. The following case studies demonstrate how their natural character, tonal variation and long-term performance contribute to architecture that is both contextually sensitive and enduring, supporting design intent while responding to place, heritage and sustainability requirements.

Cooperage Yard at Sugar House Island forms part of a wider regeneration project south of the Olympic Park, creating a distinctive urban setting that balances work, life and leisure. Designed by Waugh Thistleton Architects, the building enjoys prominent riverside views and sits alongside the island’s creative quarter. Covering 8,000 ft, Cooperage Yard is defined by its sawtooth roof overlooking the river and courtyard. Generous natural light fills both floors, complemented by a south-facing roof terrace. The use of Freshfield Lane’s Danehill Yellow bricks provides a warm contrast to neighbouring buildings, with light-filled pathways enhancing the sense of openness and optimism across the site.
