The Maker’s House – ADC

Loader Monteith has reconfigured a Victorian merchant’s house outside Glasgow to create a home for an architectural designer and ceramicist, and added a blackened timber pottery studio.

The property is located in a conversation area of Lenzie, Dunbartonshire and had been previously been subdivided into a pair of flats. The new owners, an architect and a potter, brought Loader Monteith on board to reunify the space to create a home and workspace for themselves.

The project is titled The Maker’s House in honour of the clients and involved expanding the ground floor living area, and adding a garage and studio. The front of this single-storey extension is cast in stone to match the facade of the Victorian property, while at the rear it is wrapped in black timber cladding.

“To protect our clients investment in future, we designed the floor plan to allow for easy re-subdivision. Thinking carefully about spatial planning also allowed us to create a home that supports independent living so our clients can enjoy their home for many years to come”.

“Those in architecture usually relish the opportunity to design their own homes, so we were thrilled and flattered to be selected by our clients, who are both trained architects, to work on their home outside Glasgow,” says Loader Monteith director Matt Loader.

It was fantastic to work with clients who had such enthusiasm, passion, and appreciation for design. They worked closely with us to create a home that suits their lifestyle perfectly.”
