Call of the wild: A client with a cause – ADC

Wildheart Animal Sanctuary on the Isle of Wight has committed to working with architects that participate in the Regenerative Architecture Index. An ambitious development programme offers opportunities for practices of every size.

A key ambition for the Regenerative Architecture Index is that our online practice database will serve as a useful resource for clients seeking consultants who share their commitment to regenerative design. Hence we are delighted that Wildheart Animal Sanctuary has committed to working exclusively with practices who have participated in the Index.

Owned by the Wildheart Trust, an organisation dedicated to animal conservation on the Isle of Wight and abroad, the Sanctuary, based on Sandown Bay, provides a home for rescued and threatened wildlife and puts the Isle of Wight at the frontline for the protection of endangered species. The Sanctuary is open to experimenting

with innovative materials, technologies and ideas. Its over-arching priorities are the health and wellbeing of its animals, the safety and education of its visitors, acknowledgement of our collective obligations to future generations and respect for the natural world.

Projects in the pipeline range from public realm improvements including seating, natural play and public toilets, to refurbishment and retrofit of existing buildings, to new-build projects, including animal enclosures, visitor accommodation and plans for an International School of Ecology. Calls for Expressions of Interest, project details, shortlists and winning teams will be published on regenerativearchitecture.org as projects become live.
