Located in Paris’s vibrant Montmartre neighborhood, NOIR Abbesses coffee shop redefines café aesthetics through thoughtful, sculptural design. Architect Jessica Mille transforms a modest space into a visually compelling environment where form, texture, and material seamlessly merge.

Immediately captivating visitors is the cafe’s distinctive centerpiece, a dramatic rounded counter crafted from layers of polished wood topped with thick, softly curved marble. Its organic form invites tactile appreciation, creating a sense of intimacy and warmth.

The interior continues the theme with a harmonious selection of seating, stacked shapes echoing the counter design, made from richly veined marble, warm wood, and plush, burnt-orange fabric cushions. Each piece is meticulously crafted, bringing an artistic sensibility to the everyday experience of sipping coffee.

Walls clad in rich wood paneling accentuate the welcoming atmosphere, complemented by subtle, contemporary lighting that enhances the café’s inviting mood, maintaining its elegant minimalism.

Jessica Mille’s careful attention to materiality and craftsmanship makes NOIR Abbesses more than a coffee shop. It becomes an artistic statement, a refined space designed for savoring quiet moments amid the bustling energy of Montmartre.
Photography by Isabela Mayer captures the space’s quiet drama, but it’s best experienced in person, with a flat white in hand, sunlight filtering through the glass, and the hum of Montmartre just beyond the door. – Bill Tikos
